In 1996 UCS became Lucent Technologies Authorized Representative (Agency Agreement) and, since then, the two companies have taken an active part in the conception and development of the Romanian communication infrastructure:
- Lucent was awarded a contract to implement RomTelecom SDH Transmission Rings - Backbone and Bucharest Metropolitan Rings. During the following three years, five contract extensions have been signed (the last one, Amendment 5, was signed in mid 2000)
- RomTelecom announced another project in co-operation with Lucent: Wireless Local Loop pilot systems in Arad district
- Lucent was awarded an optical SDH contract by MobiFon, Romania's second largest cellular network operator, to deploy the company's own SDH infrastructure in the Bucharest Metropolitan Area and Cluj
- Lucent signed an agreement to provide approximately 64.000 km of optical fibre for RomTelecom.
- UCS is working closely with Lucent Worldwide Services division to implement the CDMA 450 Telemobil Project.
